Start with the job description
- Copy the advert and highlight the requirements: skills, tools, years of experience, qualifications.
- Mark the three or four that appear most or come first — those are what the hiring manager cares about.
- For each one, write down a real example from your work, study or projects that proves it.
Build the resume around that evidence
Put the matching examples at the top of each role. Rewrite your profile so the first line names the job title you are applying for and your most relevant strength. Use the advert's wording for skills you actually have, because recruiters and ATS software both search for those exact terms.
- Keep each bullet to one or two lines.
- Lead with the result when it is impressive: “Grew newsletter sign-ups 40% by…”
- Remove anything that does not support this application, however proud you are of it.
Check before you send
- Your name, email and phone number are correct and professional.
- Dates are consistent and there are no unexplained gaps longer than six months.
- No spelling mistakes — read it aloud or have someone else read it.
- The file is a PDF named with your name and the role.
