Set up
- Camera at eye level; face lit from the front, not a window behind you.
- Headphones with a microphone for clearer sound.
- A plain, tidy background and notifications switched off.
- Test the platform (Teams, Zoom, Google Meet) and your connection the day before.
During the interview
- Look at the camera when making key points, not at your own video.
- Pause slightly before answering — there is often a small delay.
- Keep answers a little shorter than in person.
- Have your CV and the job description open, but do not read from them.
One-way recorded interviews
Some employers send recorded interviews where you answer on-screen questions within a time limit. Use practice questions if offered, structure answers with STAR, and watch the timer — finishing a strong answer early beats being cut off mid-sentence.
