The questions, and what they test
- Tell me about yourself — can you summarise your relevance clearly?
- Why do you want this job? — have you researched the role and company?
- What are your strengths? — do they match what the job needs, with proof?
- What is your biggest weakness? — are you self-aware and improving?
- Tell me about a time you handled a conflict — how do you work with people?
- Describe a mistake you made — do you take responsibility and learn?
- Where do you see yourself in five years? — will you stay and grow here?
- Why are you leaving your current job? — is there a problem to worry about?
- What are your salary expectations? — are you in budget, and have you researched?
- Do you have any questions for us? — are you genuinely interested?
Structure behavioural answers with STAR
For any “tell me about a time…” question, use Situation, Task, Action, Result. Spend most of the time on what you did and finish with a concrete result — a number if you have one.
Prepare five stories, not fifty answers
Pick five real situations: a success, a failure, a conflict, a time you led, and a time you learned something fast. Almost every behavioural question can be answered with one of them.
